The new Ginsburg Health Sciences Library
is located at the corner of Broad and Tioga Streets in the Lewis Katz School of Medicine Medical Education and Research Building on Temple's Health Sciences campus. The collective project goals of the medical school librarian, staff, and faculty were to create an open access library that would provide research and learning services to students, researchers, scholars, and neighbors.
Kelly Maiello was responsible for interior design of the 45,600-square-foot building, which is enclosed by a three-story glass curtainwall. Our approach incorporated various program elements essential to a major academic library: a welcoming public entrance lobby, intuitive digital technology, specialized learning environments tailored to individual and small group learning, administrative offices and support spaces. The common spaces were designed like living rooms to encourage collaborative work and socializing, with furniture conducive to relaxation and/or work. Glass-walled study rooms provide a quieter option.
